-
46th PercentileCompetitor SEQ Score

Macmillan considered a third-party tool for its assessment product to help students graph precalculus questions. Openfield evaluated the usability of the tool compared competitors.
-
Informing a business decision around adoption: Collected standardized usability metrics (SEQ and SUS) across multiple graphing tools to measure how our integration compared.
-
Understanding instructor needs: Interviewed instructors to understand whether the proposed integration met their pedagogical standards.
-
Evaluate and optimize with students: Identified and resolved usability issues by testing a functional prototype of the integrated graphing tool with precalculus students.
Wolters Kluwer DocuCare Design Requirements
Comprehensive acceptance criteria frees up critical bandwidth for the DocuCare product team.
-
44features documented
-
277user stories written
-
519acceptance criteria written

While redesigning DocuCare to better prepare nursing students to use “real world” health records, Openfield worked closely with the product team and developers to write comprehensive acceptance criteria for the new designs.
-
Reduced burden on product team: By writing the user stories and acceptance criteria, Openfield removed much of that workload from the product team.
-
Identified potential issues early: Writing and vetting acceptance criteria during the design process helped us identify missing or conflicting requirements early in the design process.
-
Guidance for the entire team: Thoroughly documented assumptions, conditions, interactions and expected outcomes ensured that UX, product, development and QA teams were on the same page.

Wolters Kluwer made incremental changes to their gradebook while planning a future redesign. Openfield used live intercept research to understand how incremental changes that were made to the product impacted the instructor experience. From that research, we identified key opportunities to prioritize in our future redesign.
-
Extensive feedback from active users: Collected real-time feedback from 289 instructors on incremental changes to the live gradebook.
-
Speed to decision making: In just a couple of weeks we measured whether or not the incremental changes positively impacted the instructor experience.
-
Key opportunities identified: From our research, we identified and prioritized key opportunities, and subsequently applied them to a full redesign.

LTA’s childhood education experts partnered with Openfield to define, execute and validate a release-ready MVP of a tablet-based app that drives family interactions critical to the journey of learning to read. Openfield measured the success of the app with children ranging from ages 4-9.
-
Positive results: The Books Alive! For Kids® app shows overwhelmingly positive results in initial testing of the release-ready MVP.
-
High confidence with a small sample size: Leveraging six key success markers and statistical analysis, Openfield achieved high confidence that results would continue to be positive if tested with a larger number of participants.
-
Identified an area for optimization: Average scores were higher with 7-9 year-olds than with 4-6 year-olds, which revealed the need to conduct additional research and optimize the product experience for users of all age groups.

12key UX improvements

WileyPLUS wanted to improve the registration process for their students and for their bottom line. Each term, the Wiley CX team had to staff up to support students during a problematic registration process. They believed they would need a complete redesign.
-
Discovery research: To truly understand student pain points, Openfield interviewed the CX team and then observed students using the existing registration process.
-
Identifying opportunities: We recommended four key areas where modest, targeted changes could make a huge difference in the student experience.
-
Quick wins, big gains: UX improvements were designed and validated to eliminate confusion, clarify next steps, and communicate options more clearly — without a full rebuild.
WileyPLUS Student Registration
Redesign results in 68% increase in student free trial conversion rate.
Improvement in free trial conversion rate
-
48%before redesign
-
81%after redesign

Research showed that students couldn’t easily find where to enter a registration code for WileyPLUS. Additionally, they were often completely unaware that a free trial option was available.
-
Increased prominence: Openfield moved the options for entering a registration code and starting a free trial to the top of the page.
-
Removed uncertainty: We added language reassuring students that credit earned during their trial would not be lost after they fully register.
-
Communicated next steps: A free trial banner was added to the product to clearly communicate the number of days remaining and to encourage the next step of purchasing.
